Protect your computer from viruses and hackers
Update your computer - Older operating systems, browsers, and software may be more vulnerable to attack. Make sure you use the latest version of your computer’s operating system, Internet browser, and software. Configure your computer’s operating system and browser to receive updates automatically.
Activate your computer’s firewall - Your computer’s operating system should have a firewall—software that is designed to prevent unauthorized access to your computer by blocking suspicious people or websites. Make sure you have a firewall, it is turned on, and it is up-to-date. Install anti-virus software - Anti-virus software can be set to scan your files and emails to detect an existing virus, and to update your computer regularly with new anti-virus information. Make sure your computer has anti-virus software, it is turned on, and your subscription is current. Install anti-spyware software - Anti-spyware software helps protect your computer from malicious programs, usually installed without your consent, designed to monitor or control your computer use. Make sure your computer has anti-spyware software, it is turned on, and your subscription is current. Use extra caution when logging in away from home
Be cautious using public computers - The best policy is to avoid using computers you do not trust. Some computers, even ones in legitimate business centers, may contain malicious software. If you must use a public or shared computer, once your session is complete, be certain to do the following before leaving the computer:

Keep your login ID and password confidential
Don’t use sensitive information in your login ID - A login ID should not contain your Social Security Number, date of birth, account number, or other sensitive information. If your current login ID contains any of this information, change it here.
Create a unique password and do not share it - Your password should be unique and should not be the same as passwords you use on other websites. We recommend changing your password at least once every six months. Do not share your password; sharing your password with anyone - including family, friends, and third party websites - may invalidate your Schwab agreements.
Watch out for suspicious emails, pop ups, and links - Use caution when online and do not click on suspicious pop ups or links. Do not write your login ID, password, or personal financial information in an email. If you receive an email addressed from Schwab asking for a login ID, password, or personal financial information, contact 00 800 0826-5001 (UK) and 0800 56-3711 (Switzerland) immediately.
Be aware of copycat websites - Don’t log in to Schwab unless you see one or more of the following indicators of security on your browser: a web address that begins with “https” instead of “http,” a padlock icon, and/or a green web address bar. Click on the “VeriSign Secured” logo during login to verify the site. Reduce the risk of lost or stolen financial records
Review your statements - Read all statements thoroughly as soon as they arrive to make sure all transactions shown are ones that you made or authorized. If you suspect unauthorized transactions, contact Schwab at 00 800 0826-5001 (UK) and 0800 56-3711 (Switzerland).
Secure your confidential documents - Keep all your financial documents in a secure place, and be careful how you dispose of any documents with financial or other confidential information. Shred documents that have confidential financial or identification information about you before throwing them away.

It is particularly important that we have your cell phone number on record, in case we need to reach you when you are traveling. Pack your laptop
If you have a laptop, bring it. Using your personal computer is usually more secure than a public one. Update your laptop’s anti-virus, browser, and other software before leaving.
Away from home:
Make your login more secure
Memorize, rather than write down, your login ID and password. We may ask you for additional authentication when logging in. You can simplify this step by requesting a Personal Identification Number. Call us at 00 800 0826-5001 (UK) and 0800 56-3711 (Switzerland) to learn more or request a PIN.
Consider a token. You can make every login more secure by using a token, a small device that creates a six digit number that serves as an additional password every time you log in. Report the identity theft and request a "fraud alert." This ensures that you will be contacted before any new account is opened and/or an existing account is changed.
Request copies of credit reports. Review the reports carefully and identify any new accounts that may have been opened. Pay particular attention to the section of the report that lists "inquiries" from new companies Contact these companies immediately and have them remove any pending or new accounts from their system. Note: credit bureaux must provide free copies of credit reports to victims of identity theft.
Contact the fraud departments of creditors to dispute unauthorised charges(e.g., credit card issuer, phone companies, utilities, banks, other lenders). Describe your identity theft problem and follow up with a letter.
File a report with your local police department. This may help when clearing your credit.
